A Thousand Trees To Support Green Ghana

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, 1st March 2022, launched the 2022 edition of “Green Ghana Day”, with a commitment to planting some twenty million trees this year, as part of the Government’s aggressive afforestation and reforestation programme. The target of the maiden edition of Green Ghana Day, held last year, was some 5 million trees, a total of 7 million trees were planted instead. This year, a total of twenty million (20,000,000) trees are set to be planted. This requires the collective effort of the entire population. In conformity with the President’s initiative, AGAMal joined AGA and the Obuasi Municipality to commemorate Green Ghana Day at the Bediaso School Park on the 10th of June 2022. The Odikro of Bedieso, the Municipal Chief Executive, some Forestry Commission Officials, and some dignitaries from AngloGold Ashanti Ghana were present to grace the occasion. At the event, AGA Obuasi pledged to plant one thousand (1,000) seedlings every year in schools and communities within its operational area from its resources as part of the company’s contribution towards the green Ghana campaign. The Senior Manager, sustainability Department of AGA, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, said the company would partner AGAMal’s Keeping Obuasi Clean Campaign (KOCC) and other stakeholders to fulfil this pledge Concurrently, KOCC joined the Anyinam Methodist School to commemorate the day with tree planting amidst a clean-up exercise. There was a donation of f ve (5) 240-Litre bins to the school to enhance cleanliness as well as build a culture of reducing littering of their compounds. In his address, the Director of AngloGold Ashanti Ghana Malaria Control, Mr. Samuel Asiedu, emphasized the importance of school tree planting for a healthy, serene environment for learning. He added that the trees planted would provide shade and serve as windbreaks for the School as he assisted with donating waste bins. The school compound has been thoroughly cleaned under the supervision of its teachers.
