Where it started

In 2005, the mine hospital in Obuasi recorded over 6,800 malaria cases every month.

That year AngloGold Ashanti launched a comprehensive malaria control programme. Spraying homes, treating breeding sites and working with communities cut cases at the hospital by more than 90%, and the programme has since grown into a partner of Ghana’s national malaria effort.

What we do

Stopping the mosquito at every stage of its life

We combine indoor residual spraying with larviciding and community sanitation, so mosquitoes are targeted where they breed and where they rest.

Trained spray operators coat the inside walls of homes with long-lasting insecticide, killing mosquitoes where they rest after feeding.

Crews find and treat standing water, so larvae never become biting mosquitoes.
