Keeping Obuasi Clean Campaign
AGAMal has been on the battle front to save lives from the menace of malaria through Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) intervention. The passion of this vision by the management and staff contributed to a successful implementation of the IRS program in Obuasi. The overwhelming success of this AngloGold Ashanti- initiated program attracted sponsorship from Global Fund to extend IRS projects to other parts of the country. With the successes chalked in the implementation of IRS programs, AGAMal would like to use the knowledge, skills and experience gained to help resolve sanitation problems confronting the entire Obuasi Township.
AGAMal is endowed with skill sets in public health, waste management, environmental management, community development and social and behavioral change communication. With the needed skillset and passion in making Obuasi clean and malaria free, AGAMal is ready to contribute its quota.

The project aims to keep the township clean
The project aims to keep the township of Obuasi clean, improve health status and make it a model town in terms of cleanliness. KOCC seeks to increase awareness and education on sanitation and clean environment in Obuasi. The campaign will help improve household waste-bin ownership and public place waste receptacle presence in Obuasi. KOCC has an objective of improving the management of household solid waste within Obuasi whiles stablishing periodic general community cleaning days in Obuasi. It seeks to improve the compliance to existing laws on sanitation as well.
It is against this backdrop that AGAMal in partnership with the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) and Obuasi East District Assembly (OEDA) is implementing the ‘Keeping Obuasi Clean Campaign’ (KOCC) to fight against poor sanitation in the township and improve general health outcomes. AGAMal, as a subsidiary of the mining giant, AngloGold Ashanti, together with its partners OMA and OEDA acknowledges other stakeholders such as the business community, security agencies, schools, professional bodies and associations, state institutions, religious bodies, traditional and area councils within the catchment area. The beneficiaries of KOCC are residents of Obuasi Township (Obuasi Municipality and Obuasi East District) of about 180,000 people
